I recently had the pleasure of joining a local book club, Readers with Attitudes, and was able to participate in their discussion. Among those attending was the author Angel Mechelle who wrote the book Another Woman’s Husband (Shannon Holmes Communications Media, $14.95). There was so much energy in the room, it had me sitting on the edge of my seat. Men were also in the group and shared their opinions on the book. The discussion became very heated as they discussed the behavior of Bree, a single mother with two children. Why did she feel compelled to lust after the neighbor’s husband? When she met Dre, her morals and self-control went bye-bye. The story heats up when Dre’s wife Neecy begins to suspect something. As the group got deeper into their conversation, it was as though they had experienced the same situations. To my surprise, at one time in their life the men admitted that they once behaved like the character Dre, but have turned from their old ways and now have a new way of living. They explained that now they understand the importance of having a committed relationship. The women felt the hurt and pain of the character’s unfaithful relationship, and in their discussion, their emotions were apparent. This was a story that became real to all. Another Woman’s Husband truly touches on real life situations. I enjoyed being among this group of mixed genders and ages that even created a game of jeopardy to engage the group and author even more. This was a great read and a hot topic.
