
It Starts with a Dream: The 15th Annual Freedom Classic ’10 Festival is a thrilling annual event that is a Richmond tradition. It happens this year Jan. 17 at the Richmond Coliseum, 601 E. Leigh St. The Freedom Classic features exciting rematch between VSU and VUU, a drumline competition, area vendors, delicious food, and a hip hop half-time show. It’s a community-focused way to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Everyone is invited to celebrate.
Backstory: In 1996, Communications Executive Kenneth Johnson, of Johnson, Inc., decided to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King in a fun, inspirational and educational way. The event has grown each year, and today, it’s one of the premier collegiate basketball events anywhere.
