The Arthritis Foundation’s Virginia Chapter announces 14 year-old Dymond Carle of Richmond as the 2010 Richmond Walk Junior Hero. The Richmond Walk will be held April 24 at VCU Stony Point Medical Center at 9 am. At five, Dymond was diagnosed with scleroderma, a chronic, often progressive auto immune disease in which the body’s immune system attacks its own tissue, causing thickening and tightening of the skin and in some cases damage to the lungs, heart and kidneys. Scleroderma attacks more women than men and in some instances, more African-Americans. There is no cure for scleroderma and the other 100 different forms of arthritis. Join Dymond and every walker to support the 7,200 children living in Virginia with arthritis and everyone who suffers.
