The Petersburg Chapter of The Links Incorporated were joined by city officials, state representatives and friends recently at the Marriott in Richmond, Virginia to honor the 15th National President, Margot James Copeland at a Luncheon Celebration.
Founded in 1946, The Links Inc. is one of the oldest and largest volunteer service organizations of women who are committed to enriching an ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans. The Links, Inc. has a membership of over 12,000 professional women of color serving in 272 chapters in 42 states, the District of Columbia, and the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. Through its foundation, the organization has contributed more than 24 million dollars to charitable causes since its founding.
U.S. Senator, Mark Warner, stopped in to greet the National President and guests. He presented a framed letter extending a warm welcome on behalf of the state of Virginia, from the Honorable Robert F. McDonnell, Governor of Virginia. The Honorable Rosalyn Dance, Delegate for the 63rd District (VA), presented letters from other female state delegates for the Commonwealth to our National President. The Honorable Marleen Durfee, Supervisor from Chesterfield County, presented a Resolution to our National President, recognizing her outstanding accomplishments.
President Margot shared precious memories of growing up in Petersburg. She then shared highlights of initiatives that her administration is involved in implementing.
The Petersburg Symphony provided entertainment during the Luncheon. Link members, from more than 25 chapters across eight states and the District of Columbia, attended.
