His smile says it all. Gordon Hatcher, a born-Richmonder who grew up in Jackson Ward, is General Manager at West Broad Hyundai, and one happy and successful individual. During his six years at Hyundai, and a total of 14 with Page Auto Group, he has seen quite a few ups & downs – but currently, all is on the upswing.
Although he boasts of his manufacturer’s support, on-going design refinements, solid and dependable product, there seems to be more to this dealership’s growth. Gordon Hatcher admits he couldn’t/wouldn’t sell a product he didn’t believe in. His belief in Hyundai is teamed with his enthusiasm for participating in and contributing to its growth. He definitely feels like he has helped create awareness for today’s Hyundai, and relates personally to where the product was 10 years ago, and where it is today. About himself, he says, “it’s taken a lot of hard work, dedication and commitment to get where I am,” but after a moment’s thought he adds, “You know, the Hyundai management and factory had to do the exact same thing.”
At the moment, he is working toward a big change: His dealership is moving into a much larger, better space the first of the year. Yes. In this economy. With more than double the inventory in both new and used cars, a tremendous amount of street frontage, and easy customer access, the new location at West Broad and Homeview will be the ideal location. With customer service top-of-mind, Gordon is quick to point out, “This location will greatly expand their choices. And in redesigning the property, we are looking for every opportunity to make buying a car as easy and streamlined as possible.” What’s his sales pitch? All he said was, “The first price you see will simply amaze you!” and offers his famous smile.
Pride in his product is apparent. He can’t decide which feature of his own Sonata is his favorite. “I love how quiet it is, and the slick design, and oh, the XM radio…” Gordon admits he could go on and on.
Gordon Hatcher is the father of Veronica, 19 and Gordon, 5. And when he’s not with his children or at his dealership, you might see him on Route 17, enjoying his favorite Sunday drive to the mountains.
