Don’t Let Gas Prices Sap Your Guest List

by Shafonne Myers

Okay, so we all know how the high cost of gas has taken over everyone’s life. Did you think it could affect your wedding day? Well, if you’re planning an event and inviting loved ones from out of town, your guests are traveling to see your special day. Sadly, if you don’t plan wisely, many of your guests may have to decline because of high fuel costs. Thankfully, there are some very easy and simple ways you can help out guests affected by the high cost of gas.

Pick dates for your event that are not around holidays.

Gas prices seem to rise around holidays and heavily traveled times of the year. I am not just referring to gas for cars, but also for any type of transportation, even trains and planes. So definitely try to stay away from very popular holidays.

Plan every event associated with your gala in the same place, or very close together.

That way, people won’t have to do a lot of unnecessary traveling. Having the ceremony and reception in one location can cut down on gas costs for your guest, which may increase the number who can attend.

For those guests who just can’t possibly attend, broadcast your event.

I found a great resource for any guest that can’t attend. Live Broadcasts is a company that will broadcast your wedding. It is the coolest thing! Anyone who can’t make it in person gets an invitation that includes the Web address and log in code. Then they get to enjoy the live feed of your special day. They also automatically record the live feed so you and your fiancé could even access it and watch it when you go on your honeymoon, way before you get home and are able to see the videotape. The Website is www.LiveWeddingBroadcast.tv. I encourage anyone who has a large number of guests who are responding back as “Declined or No” to visit this site for more information.

I know that your wedding day is meant to be yours and your fiancé’s day. But it is good wedding etiquette to keep your guests in mind, especially ones that really want to be there and can’t because of the high cost of gas.

Happy planning!
