When you look back on your wedding, the single most significant thing that people will see are your wedding photos. So you need to pay close attention to the process as early as the wedding planning stage. With a little help from my photographer friend David from Beautiful Union Portraits, I have compiled a list of tips and tricks to ensure that your wedding day pictures are fabulous.
Meet Your Photographer
Both David and I encourage everyone to try and work with their photographer before the big day. Whether it is for engagement photos, or to do your bridal portrait, make sure that you have a chance to get to see how the photographer works. You also want to see how he will work with you and your fiancé. This will definitely help ensure that on your wedding day there are no uncomfortable surprises.
Use Make-up
Always enlist the services of a great make-up artist. It can be someone professional, or a friend who knows how to apply make-up. This is a no-brainer. If your make-up looks nice, then the pictures are definitely going to reflect this and the pictures will look much better.
Shed Some Light
Consider the amount of light at the ceremony as well as the reception site; the more light the better, and natural light is always the best. Dave recommends, “Make it light enough so that the oldest person at the wedding can read the fine print on a menu without having to strain.” It is easier for the photographer to work and produce good pictures when there is adequate light.
Be Patient
Beautiful pictures take time. Make sure and give enough time for each picture to be taken when doing your pictures after the wedding. When walking down the aisle, make sure and go slowly. If you move too fast, your photographer may not be able to catch every glorious moment of your grand entrance. You don’t want to rush perfection.
Enjoy the Reception
Again, do what you can to ensure plenty of natural light. You have finally gotten through the ceremony and the announcement at the reception. It is time to take the dance floor for the first time, as Mister and Missus. Try and refrain from singing. I know it is going to be hard, but trust me; it will make your pictures look so much better.
