It was a brisk Tuesday evening, and my friend and I arrived to see the beautiful site of Sunday Park, and along the water’s edge, The Boathouse Restaurant, located at 4602 Millridge Parkway in Midlothian, Virginia.
The sun was still peeking above the horizon, allowing enough light for us to take in the breathtaking view, with boats scattered on the shore, a small dock for sightseeing, and the tranquility offered by the panoramic view of the water.
Once inside the restaurant, we were warmly greeted by a hostess who inquired if we wanted to be seated in any particular section. Although the deck was open that night, with cool air breezing in from the water, we decided to be seated inside and took our comfy wooden booth seats.
Our eyes lit up and mouths watered as we perused the menu. Although we decided we weren’t hungry enough to sample them, appetizers include Spicy Crab and Artichoke Dip with Crostini ($9.95) and Crunchy Shrimp and Avocado Roll ($8.95). Not two minutes after we had been seated, our waiter came to welcome us, letting us know he would be at our service if we had any questions.
After much deliberation regarding my entree, I settled on the Crab Stuffed Baked Shrimp ($19.95) and promised my friend that I would taste her 8 oz. Filet Mignon ($24.50). Both dishes are served with Tilamook cheddar and chive mashed potatoes, and garlic bread.
The atmosphere is a perfect blend between comfort and sophistication. The classic nautical décor encourages a sense of ease, while a chic flair is evident in the linen and glassware, reminding diners that they are somewhere special.
Our food arrived in a timely fashion, accompanied by delightful aromas. The portions are of appropriate size, and were enough to fill me up. As I took the first bite of shrimp, I was pleased to discover a wonderful blend of spices on the shrimp that had been baked to perfection. The hint of crab induced a taste haven that couldn’t have pleased me more. The chefs clearly prepared a succulent and tantalizing dish.
But that didn’t stop me from trying a piece of my friend’s filet mignon which was superbly prepared to her specification of medium rare.
Every Wednesday, The Boathouse hosts Wine Night, during which select award-winning wines are rotated and available for half price. Also, an end of the week celebration is held every Friday from 3-6 p.m., boasting 30% off all food items and live entertainment. You can be prepared to spend about $30-$40 per person, depending on the entrée and decision to order an appetizer or dessert.
Clearly, I enjoyed my dining experience at The Boathouse at Sunday Park and do not hesitate to suggest it to someone seeking an incredible view, a sophisticated atmosphere, and great food. Visit www.theboathouseatsundaypark.com
