Daphne Maxwell Reid, actress and owner of New Millennium Studios in Petersburg will serve as Master of Ceremonies at the 9th Annual Oliver W. Hill & Samuel W. Tucker Scholarship Dinner, April 30 at the Virginia Holocaust Museum, 2000 E. Cary St. The featured guest speaker will be Juan Williams, Fox News analyst, commentator for National Public Radio and author of Eyes on the Prize: America’s Civil Rights Years, 1954-1965 (Penguin, 1988).
Delegate Jennifer McClellan will announce three scholarship winners at the dinner and present their awards. Mayor Dwight C. Jones will give opening remarks. The students chosen to receive scholarship funds will have demonstrated academic excellence and a desire to follow the dreams and visions of civil rights activists and attorneys Hill and Tucker.
Since 2001, the Oliver W. Hill & Samuel W. Tucker Scholarship Committee has presented scholarships to deserving first year law students at Virginia law schools and Howard University.
The event is sponsored by The Greater Richmond Bar Foundation, The Oliver W. Hill & Samuel W. Tucker Scholarship Committee and the Virginia Holocaust Museum. $55 in advance and $65 at the door.
