“Ambition is the path to success.
Persistence is the vehicle you arrive in.”
—Bill Bradley (b. 1943);
There I sat in the Immediate Care Facility for a medical concern that demanded my attention. The wait felt really long! Instead of pacing and tapping my foot in frustration, I tried patience, prayer, thinking pleasant thoughts and believing that what I was experiencing wasn’t fatal, just an inconvenience.
Then my husband had stopped thumbing through the magazines and began intently reading the caption adjacent to a photo of several American sprinters including stellar athlete and sprinter, Natasha Hastings. He said, “Do you remember hearing about the woman that ran out of her track shoe? This is the race.” I glanced at the photograph by Heinz Kluetmeier; he beautifully captured the exuberance of this Olympian and her victorious teammates. They joyfully were huddled together concluding the April 2009, 4 x 400 Penn Relays. This photo stretches our imagination and demonstrates the beauty, power, sheer strength and zeal of an athlete. The caption and the photo of Natasha spoke volumes about this star athlete not depending on her running shoes.
