To celebrate the one year anniversary of Urban Views Weekly, we’ll feature our Contributors each week. This week, meet Torski Dobson-Arnold, our contributing writer in professional development and employment.
When you’re seeking employment, experience goes a long way in proving your worth to an employer. So it makes sense that a savvy job seeker would look to someone who’s personally traveled the difficult road from layoff to a fulfilling career. With her company Your Career Confidence LLC, Mechanicsville resident Torski-Dobson Arnold trains, guides and coaches job seekers toward their ideal careers, strategically covering each step from resumes to interviews, from career assessment to salary negotiation.
But in 2002, she was grappling with a painful layoff. In a post 9/11 economy, Torski recalls, “Things were tightening up all across the world in regards to hiring. I was a product of the ‘last hired, first fired’ syndrome, and so I was let go for the first time.”
The experience was unsettling: “I went through the whole ‘why me, is something wrong with me?’ Having gone through that, I can connect from all levels with my clients that I work with. I too myself have been in their shoes, and fairly recently.”
