Recently, I was introduced to Michelle Carter-Bolden and Carolyn Rivers, who shared with me that they were members of Elite Literary Guild Book Club in Richmond. They invited me to their September meeting. That day, as the members began coming in one by one, I sat with Michelle and she told me the history of the book club.
Elite Literary Guild was formed in 2003 by Cassandra Harmen. It currently has 14 members and Michelle is club president. This group of women is very committed to reading and if any member did not complete the book, they have to pay a fine! That is true commitment and accountability for being a member of this club.
I was very impressed that not only were they committed to reading and having a book discussion, but they also discussed their strategic plan on how they were going to participate helping others as part of their community service. They demonstrated to me how dedicated they were to helping those less fortunate.
