If the journey of a million miles begins with one step, then participants braving the brisk morning air as a part of the 1st Annual “Step-2-It” Morning Mile are well on their way! The service learning students of Southside Baptist Christian School recently led more than 150 students, school faculty and staff, parents, and community volunteers in a one mile walk to kick off one of twenty satellite events held in conjunction with Virginia Healthy Youth Day in the Richmond tri-city area.
Event participants were issued pedometers – used to calculate total steps taken – following the “Step-Pep” Rally. Two students led the way by running the first mile. The walk was followed by a healthy morning snack sponsored in part by the Food Lion and Martin’s located in the South Richmond community. Event participants participated in breakout sessions facilitated by nursing and medical assistant students from Centura College. www.SBCScares.com
