Hi! Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I am currently working a temp job that I got through a temp agency. It is about a 2 month assignment with many other temps in the office with me. I absolutely LOVE the job/company, and am wondering what is the proper etiquette for contacting the company after the assignment ends? Can I email my supervisor and tell her how much I loved working for them and to keep me in mind for future job openings or would that be improper and possibly hurting the relationship with the temp agency?
Excited Temporary Worker
Dear Excited Temp Worker,
If you enjoy the temporary job that much, I would express your excitement with your supervisor now. Don’t wait until after the assignment ends to share your genuine interest in the company and in your role.
After the assignment is over, I think it would be very appropriate to send the supervisor a thank you letter/card speaking specifically to the work you have done and your interest in future job assignments temporary or even better, full-time. I believe that it is those small things that will set you apart from the other temporary workers in this environment and help you position yourself for an opportunity within this company in the future. Worst case scenario, you could certainly be able to use this supervisor as a valid reference in your job search efforts going forward. And if that’s the worst that could happen, your odds are awesome! I am so excited for you and your enthusiasm in this opportunity!
