The Virginia State University Educational Opportunity Centers (EOC) is a new, federally-funded TRIO program that provides counseling and information to adults, ages 18 and older, who desire to enter or re-enter post secondary education. The goal of the EOC is to help adults enroll into GED programs and/or pursue education beyond high school. The VSU EOC is now open and receiving applications.
The program will serve 1,000 participants annually who reside in the cities of Colonial Heights, Emporia, Hopewell, Petersburg, and the counties of Charles City, Chesterfield, Dinwiddie, Greensville, Prince George, Surry, Sussex, and the U.S. Army Combined Arms Support Command (CASCOM) and Fort Lee.
All EOC services are free and include: referrals to adult basic education and GED classes; information about local colleges, universities and adult education centers; assistance with college admissions applications and scholarship search; and educational opportunity workshops.
The EOC also provides career and financial aid services, including: assistance with career planning; interest inventories; vocational information; referrals to community agencies; resume’ assistance; college/career exploration workshops; assistance completing the Free Application for Student Aid, (FAFSA); understanding Federal and State loan programs; assistance with student aid reports; and financial aid workshops.
